When life gives you lemons, Do the Master Cleanse!

8/13, 8/14, 8/15, 8/16, 8/17 - Master Cleanse Complete

I've been too busy to update this for the past few days.  But the Master Cleanse is finally done.  I've lost 9.5 lbs probably by the end of the day  it will be 10lbs.  More importantly, I am free from Caffeine and I've detached myself from emotional eating.   Brandon and I start our 5K training later today.

8/12/2013 Day 5-

I was in a rush this morning and I forgot to do my weigh in.  Woke up feeling refreshed though.  Not tired at all.  Had a hot water, lemon, and Cayenne pepper drink.  Then off to work.

Had my first juice of the day at 10:55am and still going strong.

8/11/2013 Day 4 -

Weighed in at 130.8 still losing weight. Went to the beach to see Monk Seals and then went to Kailua Beach Park and went swimming. Being in the salt water was further detoxifying.  It was a nice day.  Been really busy this weekend.  I need to sleep early.

8/10/2013 Day 3 -

Weighed in at 131.6, Lost over 4lbs already!  Woke up several times last night though to go to the bathroom.  Finally dragged myself out of bed at 8:30 and did my salt water rinse.  Took 45 minutes to take down all the liquid and didn't finish passing it until 10:45.  Had my 1st juice of the day at 11, made it a 1.5 size since I had left over lemon/maple concentrate.

Made spam musubi for the family this morning. It was a challenge for me to around the food, but I ended up being ok.

Got too busy to update this but, I used the steam sauna and continued on with the master cleanse diet.  I was able to go grocery shopping and cook dinner for family without being affected by cravings and hunger.

8/9/2013 Day 2 -

Weighed in at 133.8, lost 2 lbs already. I was feeling really tired this morning and couldn't do another salt water flush so I did the tea instead.  Had my first juice at work at 9:30am. Not feeling hungry at this point, so that's great!

Had my second juice at 12pm when I started to get a little hungry.  My alertness is fine though, without caffeine now going on 5 days.  The only thing I'm struggling with today is that I'm cold. It's freezing here at work and usually I'd be having a hot coffee w/espresso shot by now.  Looks like I'm going to take the long stroll to make a hot herbal decaffinated tea.

I couldn't stand the cold so I went and made myself a decaffeinated mint tea.  Back and my desk now and tackling a load of work.  Waiting for my tea to steep so should be ready by 12:30pm.  4 hours more to go at work.

Had my 3rd Juice at 3:45 and I'm feeling ok.  Not hungry.  Only a few minutes left and I'm leaving for home at 4:30.

Got home around 5:45 and took a nap until 6:15.  I really need that nap.  Made a juice (#4) and drank it at 6:30 hoping it would help me with my energy.  I still feel tired.  Could it be the caffeine withdrawals or am I just weak from the cleanse? Took a long hot shower and made Orange Spice Decaf Tea to drink at 7:15pm while watching tv.

The Orange Spice Tea started to bother my stomach.  I started having acid reflux and I really shouldn't be having that with all the lemon I've been drinking.  I wasn't hungry or ready for a juice #5, but I forced myself to have one at 8:30 to help neutralize the acid.  I tried to distract myself by doing some Wii Fit, but Brandon opened it up to change the batteries and they had exploded.  We cleaned it and put in new batteries but it doesn't work :(

I made dinner for Ryen at 9:00. He had a huge late lunch so didn't want to eat until late. That was my hardest test.  He wanted me to reheat leftover KFC chicken which I did in the oven.  He had corn on the cob, a chicken thigh and I cut him a big piece of sweet bread.  Everything smelled so good but I'm still suffering here.  Waiting for my Korean show to come on at 9:25.  Then off to bed and on to another day.

Mood: Determined but tired.  I found myself counting the # of times I walked to the kitchen to get something to eat, catching myself and reminding myself that I can't eat.  Being at work was easy, I was alert and not struggling through most of the day.  I guess Saturday and Sunday is going to be the hardest since I won't have as much to keep me busy.

8/8/2013 Day 1 - I've been Caffeine free for 4 days!

Woke up at 5:45 this morning to do the salt water flush.  Took down 4 cups of water and 2 tsp of natural sea salt. My stomach was already a little upset prior to starting the drink, probably from the laxative tea I had last night.  Took me a while to finish the salt water since it is a lot of liquid.  It actually didn't taste so bad like other people have mentioned.  I watched some tv and by 6:15 I was fully done with my salt water drink.  I rested in bed.  Laid down on my right side to make this pass through the system quicker.  Sure enough, by 7:00am I had passed all of it :(  Amazing.  Just like an enema, but no cramping so it actually wasn't that bad.  I started to make my lemonade.  Squeezed 4 lemons and it made 14 tablespoons of juice.  Enough for 7 juices today.

Recipe
Yields 1 lemonade drink
2 Tablespoons Lemon Juice
2 Tablespoons Maples Syrup
8 Oz (1 cup) Water
1 pinch of Cayenne Pepper

I made myself a concentrate of the juice to take to work.  Mixed in equal parts of  lemon juice and maple syrup to keep refrigerated at work.  Will add to water and add cayenne pepper when ready to drink.  Had my 1st lemonade at 8:30 and it tastes really good.  Like a sweet, spicy lemonade.  I can get used to it :).  Off to start my day....

Mood:  Ready to detach myself from food and emotional eating :)

Recap of Day 1 - Planned to go to work by 9am as normal but Ryen got sick so took him to the doctor at 10:50am.  He's feeling better now and will be staying home again tomorrow.  Got antibiotics! Went to the grocery store in Mililani and that was the hardest part of my day.  Seeing all the good food.  Had another challenging moment when my husband wanted to go to Starbucks this evening.  I've been caffeine free now since Sunday so 4 days now.  I'm still suffering from caffeine withdrawals symptoms, I feel a little tired and had a headache the past 3 days.  Walking into Starbucks and smelling coffee really didn't help.  I got myself a Venti Water, while he enjoyed my favorite drink the Hot Soy Chai Latte.  Ryen got a double chocolate brownie, Brandon got a cheese cake brownie.  They were giving free samples of the turkey pesto sandwich.  Ryen ate 2 and Brandon had 1.  The Barista threw in 2 birthday cake pops which someone left behind.  Score!  Made it through the day but will probably add more days to my cleanse now.  We'll talk about that later.  About to have my smooth move tea at 9:02pm and head to bed by 10.  Another salt water flush to start the day tomorrow.

Weigh in: Didn't get a picture of it but was at 134.2 this morning, and went back up to 135.0 even by end of day so I'm down .08 lbs in 1 day.

8/7/2013 Day 0 Preparation

Last night I went online and happened across an interesting vlog on youtube.  This Vlog features a couple who do the Master Cleanse together.  I watched this an was inspired to start my own journey.  The past few months have been challenging for me both health wise at career wise.  I've been troubled by aches and pains, weight gain, and gastrointestinal problems.  Recently, work got to be really stressful as well especially this week.  On 8/5/13, I was forced to take on additional duties at work since someone resigned so I'm struggling to meet my own deadlines.  I've been feeling unhappy at home and stressed at work so I felt everything was bringing me to this point where I realized I need to take care of myself.  I want to detox myself from all the bad things in life and start fresh.  People sometimes start a cleanse or detox diet for physical health reasons.  I feel like this is a good step and a good way to challenge myself mentally as well.  I'm hoping that this will rid me of my anxieties, my addictions to caffeine and junk food, and lack of sleep.  Wish me luck on my journey.  Here goes.........

Day 0 Preparation
Today I went to Down to Earth and bought my supplies.
-Lemons
-Maple Syrup Grade B
- Sea Salt
-Cayenne Pepper
- Smooth Move Laxative Tea

I weighed myself, and sadly I'm 135.8.  This is the heaviest I've ever been.  I didn't even get this heavy during pregnancy.

I'm determined to go to bed early.  So I start the Master Cleanse by drinking the Smooth Move Laxative Tea right before bed.

Mood:
Determined to and excited to start the cleanse.  Feeling lonelier than ever because I don't have anyone to share this experience with.

I'm watching the 10pm news and finishing my tea.  Will wake up early to do the salt water rinse tomorrow morning.

Baked Wonton Cups Stuffed with Poke

Cooking Time: 20 minutes
Yield: 40 Wonton Poke Cups

Ingredients:
  • Wonton Wrappers (1 package) The brand I bought had 40 wrappers
  • 1.5 Pounds of Poke (I used Alae Limu Poke from Taniokas and Kim Chee Tako Poke from Times)
  • 2 Tablespoons Sesame Seeds
  • 2 Cups Shredded Cabbage (I used half a bag of Taro Brand Salad Mix - contains green and purple cabbage)
  • Pam Cooking Spray
Shoyu Mustard Dressing:
  • 1/4 Cup Shoyu
  • 2 Teaspoons Hot Mustard Powder (Chinese)
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Sesame Oil (optional)
Directions:
  • Preheat Oven to 375 Degrees
  • Toast Sesame Seeds in Non Stick Pan over medium heat for approximately 5 minutes or until lightly toasted and fragrant. Do not use oil.
  • Spray Mini Muffin Pan with Pam
  • Arrange Wonton Wrappers into Mini Muffin Pan to create Won Ton Cups as pictured, making sure to press firmly into pan. Then spray Won Ton Cups with Pam so they become crispy while you bake them. Season lightly with salt and sprinkle with some of the toasted sesame seeds.
  • Bake at 375 Degrees for about 5 minutes. (Baking times vary due to different types of ovens) Stand by your oven and watch your wonton cups.
  • Remove from oven when they are golden brown. Let wonton cups cool while you begin to prepare the dressing.
  • Prepare the dressing by mixing; 1/4 cup shoyu, 2 Teaspoons of Hot Mustard Powder, and option 1/4 Teaspoon Sesame Oil in a bowl until well blended. Add more hot mustard powder to taste if you like your dressing spicy.
  • Fill wonton cups halfway with shredded cabbage and drizzle with a few drops of dressing and remaining sesame seeds.
  • Top cabbage with poke until wonton cups are full, serve immediately. (Tako Poke Cups pictured below)
  • Here are additional pictures of ingredients I used which were mentioned in the recipe.
